Statement of Intent from MKP UK&I

Violence against Women and Girls

Violence against women and girls must be prevented.

Male perpetrated violence is an issue that men need to resolve. As a men’s well-being charity The ManKind Project UK & Ireland stands ready to do more.

The shocking news of Sarah Everard’s death and the outpouring of stories from other women have provoked two questions within MKP UK&I; “What are we currently doing to promote women’s safety?” And, “What further actions can we take?”

We currently hold regular men's groups that enable men to bring their challenges, so that they may be supported and move closer to resolution in confidential, peer facilitated men’s groups. These groups help men to understand their emotions, take responsibility for them and express them in a healthy way.

MKP UK&I does not have the capacity to offer therapy, nonetheless we are keen to create alliances with other professional bodies to better tackle the problem of male perpetrated violence. With these partnerships we aim to signpost men, as perpetrators, who are seeking help towards the first steps of therapeutic advice and on-going support in the prevention of violence against women.

We would like to state that we welcome women to guide men that they experience as abusive towards our organisation. We would also ask the men within our community; to ask the women and girls in your life, “What can I / we do to create safer spaces for women?”

MKP UK&I is committed to supporting the safety of women and girls. As a charity we remain open to learning from others who have expertise in dealing with these vital issues. To that end, if you have any connection to relevant professionals please do put us in touch. Thank-you.
